Trevi Fountain

The Romans used to have to bring water into the city by Aqueducts,  which were one of the greatest engineering feats, which would bring water in from 20-40 miles away. It was Roman custom to create a beautiful fountain at the endpoint of the aqueduct that brought water into the city, and this is where the Trevi Fountain was built.

This fountain was in a hidden location, although it is huge. I turned around a corner from a small street and it jumped out at us. The fountain was absolutely stunning. It is 85 feet high, and has a very wild ambitious scene of Neptune the sea god and two tritons taming their horses.  One horse is springing forward, and the other is more calm which represents the two moods of the sea.  It is a tradition to throw a coin over your left shoulder to ensure a safe trip home. I read that over 3000 euros are thrown in each day and they empty it out at night and give the money to the poor.  This is the largest fountain in Rome.
